Panchagavya
Panchagavya is a term used to
describe five major substances obtained from cow which include cow's
urine, milk, ghee, curd and dung. These substances are abundantly used
in Ayurved for treatment of several disorders such as: ( Reference :
Charak Samhita , Sushrut Samhita , Vaghbhatta Samhita & so on)
- Leucoderma
- Hyperlipidemia
- Arthritis
- Renal disorders
- Acidity etc.
The organisation has carried out
investigation on these substances and have obtained very promising
results on the above disorders from formulation based on panchagavya.
The Panchagavya products also show excellent agricultural
applications. A formulation derived from cow urine and leaves of neem
is an excellent pesticide and insect repellent.
Recently "Monocaprin" contained in
milk and milk products is reported to possess excellent microbicidal
properties and useful against Transmitted Diseases in Humans
A herbal preparation popular in
Nigeria is based on cow's urine and some herbs and is called Cow urine
concoction (CUC). Over fifty chemical compounds have been identified
in CUC. It's major pharmacological actions include anticonvulsant and
hypoglycemic effects.
The ayurvedic literature (Vir Charak
Samhita, Sushrut, Gad Nigrah - - - - - -) suggests a number of
pharmacological application of the substances obtained from
panchagavya. A systematic work need to be carried out on chemical
nature, biological activity, pharmacology, microbiology and
pharmaceutical aspects and mechanism of bioactive compounds in
Panchagavya. |
